i was watching a show on lifestyle network called "celebrity slim down", it was about how celebrities got back into their skinny figures after bloating up a bit... then it struck me
why?
why do we go through all the diet and exercise to be skinny... i'm sure a lot of women out there can relate to this situation. trying hard to get a figure that celebrities have... trying to fit into a size 2 or 4, but for what exactly?
i could only come up with a few reasons:
1. to look good in a cocktail dress
2. to fit in to their old clothes
3. because people look at them differently, albeit sexier
we are all sucked in to this illusion of beauty and the shape that a woman's body must be in order to be accepted by society. buying all those slimming teas and pills, spending money on things that, when you think about it, aren't that important.
i'm not saying diet and exercise isn't important, of course it is. but if you're as skinny as a broom stick and you still want to shrink down, that's the problem.
society gives too much attention to how a person looks, how she moves, her toned arms and legs. things that don't add up to determining whether you're a good person or not.
there's a saying that goes "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder"; beauty here does not suggest the physical attributes of a person but what a person sees PAST the external shell.
so then, i ask you, is it worth it?
putting all your efforts into shrinking down to a size 2 and not tasting delicious meals created by people who care for you,
jogging through the park not even noticing the flowers that have finally bloomed in spring,
buying all those expensive slimming materials when you could have donatated the money to charity.
ASK YOURSELF.
